If an item becomes available that improves any aspect of the spraying operation, then it is put under consideration for integration on the train. Looking further into the future, there is a constant need to assess ways of reducing the train's environmental impact. One such ongoing development is species recognition; this allows the train's computers to identify individual species of weeds according to their location on the track bed. In doing so specific herbicides can be used to effectively treat the invasive weeds. Again, as these herbicides are usually potent we want to minimize their usage and by targeting only select weeds, this is the next logical step in optimizing treatments.
